Renewable energies allow host communities to live in harmony with their values, while providing financial leverage towards sustainable development. For indigenous communities, this type of project makes it particularly possible to reconcile tradition and modernity. This workshop will provide a better understanding of the progress made by the Mohawk communities of Kahnawake in order to share ownership of a wind asset, the Des Cultures project. Its partner, Kruger Energy, will explain the philosophy that guides the creation of partnership with the host communities. Finally, an overview of about 300 Canadian Aboriginal communities seeking alternatives to the electrical production of fossil fuel-fired generators will be provided.
