My undergraduate degree in chemistry and physics from Harvard (1965), my doctorate in physics from Chicago (1971). After two years of post-doctoral work at Columbia I switched fields and have been an academic economist for the past forty years or so, specializing for much of that time in the application of economics to law. My first book, The Machinery of Freedom, was a libertarian text discussing, among other things, what a market society without government might look like. It was published in 1971, and is now in its third edition. I have also written non-fiction on economics, economic analysis of law and technological change and have written but not yet published a book on legal systems very different from ours. I have published two novels, have a third almost finished. I am a very long term SCA member, with interests including cooking, jewelry, story telling, Islamic history and culture, and SCA combat.
