Shahid Mahmud became a publisher in 2006 creating the SF/Fantasy imprint Phoenix Pick. The catalog now includes reprints by Heinlein, Niven, de Camp and many other iconic figures of the genre. Phoenix Pick published the Stellar Guild series pairing veteran authors with newer ones. Authors include Larry Niven, Eric Flint, Mercedes Lackey, Robert Silverberg and others. He partnered with Mike Resnick in 2013 to create Galaxy’s Edge magazine. Shahid represented the de Camp estate when de Camp was nominated for retro-Hugo at Loncon-3. He considers this to be one of the highlights of his new career. 2020 will see the launch of a new imprint CAEZIK focusing on new works, starting with a new novel by Robert A. Heinlein (based on a rediscovered text). Other titles include works by Harry Turtledove, James Morrow and Robert J. Sawyer. Shahid was an evil money manager before his enlightenment and was a senior grader for the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) examination. His last job as a money manager was managing the City of San Diego’s investment portfolio. The acting mayor of San Diego declared November 7th, 2005 to be “Shahid Mahmud” day for services he had rendered to the City.
