Patrick Nielsen Hayden is the editor-in-chief of Tor Books, where he has worked for over thirty years. He is responsible for launching or helping to launch the careers of several notable SF and fantasy novelists, including Maureen F. McHugh, Susan Palwick, Jonathan Lethem, Cory Doctorow, Jo Walton, John Scalzi, Hannu Rajaniemi, Ada Palmer, and Charlie Jane Anders. He has also edited and co-edited several original and reprint anthologies; his most recent, edited with the late David G. Hartwell, is Twenty-First Century Science Fiction (Tor, 2013). For his original anthology Starlight 1 (Tor, 1996), he won a World Fantasy Award; he has also won three Hugo Awards for his editorial work. With his wife, Teresa Nielsen Hayden, he helped found the New York Review of Science Fiction. Together, the Nielsen Haydens are among the regular instructors at the Viable Paradise writers' workshop. In 2003, they were awarded the Edward E. Smith Memorial Award (the "Skylark"), for service to the SF field; and in 2016 they were among the guests of honor at the World Science Fiction Convention.
