A brief overview will be provided on research inspired by an employer articulating a need for students to "hit the ground running" in an effort to define observed skills gaps. Meanwhile some professional organizations such as the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB) have defined graduate attributes. This study initiated an exploration to consider establishing a framework of graduate skills and attributes for curriculum design in Co-op and WIL. The study explored the graduate skills and attributes that students and employers expect to be developed during the Co-op experience. The session will review the study and solicit feedback through group discussions.

Learning Outcomes

  • To provide a review of the motivation and background for the study
  • Present findings of the study concerning student and employer expectations on developing graduate skills and attributes
  • Solicit feedback on the findings and explore potential future research
