MARC SAPERSTEIN completed in July 2011 a five-year term as Principal of the Leo Baeck College; he currently serves as Professor of Jewish History and Homiletics at LBC. Previously he held prestigious positions at three American Universities: George Washington University in Washington D.C. (1997–2006), Washington University in St. Louis (1986–1997), and Harvard Divinity School (1977–1986). Recognized as one of the pre-eminent authorities on the history of Jewish preaching, among his books are Jewish Preaching in Times of War 1800–2001 (2008), Leadership and Conflict: Tensions in Medieval and Early Modern Jewish History and Culture (2014), and—together with Jacob Rader Marcus—The Jews in Christian Europe: A Source Book, 315-1791 (2016). His latest book, published by the Hebrew Union College Press, is Agony in the Pulpit: Jewish Preaching in Response to Nazi Persecution and Mass Murder, 1933-1945.
