The Alberta curriculum has a very strong literacy focus that requires students to express themselves in writing. Teachers often struggle to find ways to get their students to write with quality, writing more words does not mean better writing. Students have to be taught what good writing is and how adding related details can make their writing much more interesting.

The Bear Necessities has helped grade 1-3 teachers across Alberta teach strategies that help students better understand what good writing is and how even reluctant writers can become more confident writers.

Teaching younger students to write is a challenge for many teachers. The Bear Necessities of Writing was created right here in Alberta and is currently being used in hundreds of Alberta and BC classrooms very successfully. The fun toolbox of strategies and activities can be used in any grade 1-3 classroom with immediate results in student growth as writers.
