Do you have students who cannot focus on reading and writing tasks? Do they have to take significantly more breaks than others? Do they seem to have ants in their pants? One conclusion is that they have ADHD and need medications. This is often the one jumped to and many kids are needlessly put on stimulant medications. Did you know that in most cases, you (the student’s teacher) play a significant part in diagnosing ADHD and putting the kids on medications? Many ADHD symptoms can also be symptoms of undiagnosed vision problems that, when corrected, lessen the same ADHD symptoms. Learn how ADHD and vision problem symptoms overlap and what you, as teachers, can look for.
