"As second-language teachers, we seek to improve the oral-language competencies of our students. Our challenge is to find engaging ways to achieve this goal. This workshop will feature practical approaches to developing student oral-language capacity.

In this session, we will present the importance of developing implicit competence in a second language. We will investigate pedagogical practices that develop both social and disciplinary language in the classroom. We will explore ways to promote spontaneity and fluency through activities and games. We will model ways of using narrative and informative texts to foster oral-language development. We will look at classroom routines that encourage students’ conversational skills. We will demonstrate how games increase communicative competence in a second language. This session will be interactive and dynamically paced."
