The death of a loved one washes over like a catastrophic tsunami. Grief consists of the waves and ripples that rise up and down as we navigate through the murky waters of bereavement. As tragedy passes through, it takes pieces of one’s physical, emotional, and psychological wellbeing. Returning to a normal routine and meeting the expectation that life goes on is both painful and difficult while mourning a profound absence. The pressure to teach, evaluate and provide students with worthwhile lessons can seem impossible. Working with Grief was designed after experiencing the loss of a loved one in the middle of the school year. Whether experiencing new or reoccurring grief, this workshop is meant to give teachers strategies to cope in both their personal and professional lives.
