This session is an opportunity to share learning around colonization, Canadian government policies, acts, proclamations, and laws passed as an act of assimilation of Indigenous people. We will walk one another through a timeline of events that will be supported with facts and information. This will provide learners with foundational knowledge to deepen understandings of the lasting impacts of these truths on Indigenous peoples of these lands. This is an invitation to participants to ask questions and develop ownership of their part in Reconciliation, guided through Indigenous circle protocol and pedagogy. Participants will reflect on their personal truths regarding colonization and discuss next steps for their journey in reconciliation, and how to honor Indigenous knowledge systems and pedagogy in a colonized system. Knowing how we decide to respond to the 94 Calls to Actions as educators will have the biggest impact on all learners.
