Every classroom has some quiet, mysterious, or seemingly disengaged students who arrive to school, often late, in body but not in mind or spirit. They disappear beneath over-sized clothes or a hoody, disconnect in a busy classroom, and sit alone at their locker. Anxious, isolated, or cynical, some may resort to drugs and alcohol, self-harm, or suicidal ideation. For teachers who want to dissolve the barrier and find ways to connect, feel guilty for ignoring them, or admit to being frustrated, this session will transform how you see these students in relation to all students. Gain insight into behaviors. Learn practical strategies. Discover how to pull these students out of isolation and into a community.
