Video gaming has become a hot topic of discussion in the past few years, and is one of the most frequently requested presentations at AHS Youth Addiction Services Calgary. This session provides an overview of video gaming and its place in our culture. Video game revenues, design and genres are examined, along with information about the benefits and consequences of video game play for youth. Signs and symptoms of problem use, and the connection between video gaming and mental health, are discussed. Resources for parents and teachers are recommended, as well as strategies for facilitating discussion about video games with students in the classroom.
