Eating disorders are not a choice, but the culmination of many underlying factors coming together in a perfect storm - they are life-threatening physical complications. Common myths vs. medical and psychological facts of disordered eating will be presented, allowing for a higher level of compassionate understanding. Types of eating disorders, warning signs and risk factors, suggestions for initiating conversations, and avenues for local treatments and support will be discussed, interwoven with personal experiences from the speaker's own journey through anorexia.
