An important skill when assessing diverse learners is the ability to both develop authentic assignments and then alter them for individual learners. To successfully provide these alterations, teachers need to be able to create assessment tools that can be applied to a variety of tasks while remaining congruent with the curriculum. The descriptive nature of rubrics enables this diversification; however, teachers need to be skilled in evaluating when to use rubrics, how to modify rubrics, how to create their own for classroom implementation, and how to incorporate rubrics into their grading. This course enables student teachers to design, critique, alter, and evaluate rubrics for effective use in their classrooms.
