Melissa Logan is an educator who has worked in the Alberta SPCA Education Department for 12 years. Engaging with teachers and other organizations, she has developed and collaborated on curriculum-relevant humane education programs and resources for Alberta teachers to inspire empathy and compassion for all living things, and enhance animal welfare across the province. One such program, AnimalTales, a book lending program aimed at inspiring empathy, has been utilized by over 16,000 Alberta students since its inception nine years ago. She has presented on using literature to foster empathy for animals and people at national and international conferences.
