Amanda Koyama is the Director of Strategic Engagement at Calgary Catholic Immigration Society (CCIS). As the largest resettlement organization in the Prairies, CCIS has decades of evidence and practice around supporting newcomer families and children. The Family and Children’s Services Division of CCIS provides programming that seeks to: facilitate the positive integration of newcomer families and children into the community while also enhancing the capacity of systems to respond to the unique and diverse needs of newcomer families and children. The Margaret Chisholm Resettlement Centre (MCRC) provides a first home for Refugees arriving to Calgary as they begin their resettlement process of adjusting to a new country. MCRC is a temporary accommodation facility where Government Assistant Refugees destined to Calgary are brought from the airport to stay for up to 19 days until permanent accommodation is secured.
