Participates in 1 Session
Amanda de Chastelain is a Physical Therapist working with paediatric patients and their families within the complex pain clinic (CPC) in the Vi Riddell Children’s Pain and Rehabilitation Centre at the Alberta Children’s Hospital (ACH). With extensive clinical experience working with children and teens with various conditions and injuries (orthopaedics, burns, in-patients, ICU, sports among others) she has helped children and their families with acute, complex and chronic pain of various etiologies throughout her career. Educating patients and their families to better understand the intricate nervous system and its relationship to their current condition is a cornerstone of her work and vital to getting patients moving to optimize their recovery. She currently works alongside other multi-disciplinary CPC team members through the unique and Intensive Pain and Rehabilitation Program (IPRP) and is involved with research initiatives stemming from this program as well. Amanda believes that education is vital to improving the lives of patients and families dealing with complex pain issues and values the unique position teachers are in to have a positive impact on the kids in their classes dealing with pain issues. Amanda hopes that by sharing information with teachers, that this will serve to improve the quality of life and function of kids in the community dealing with pain issues, possibly mitigating their need to access the CPC at ACH.
