Master Tłı̨chǫ storyteller and bestselling author Richard Van Camp

Richard Van Camp is an internationally renowned storyteller and best-selling and award-winning author. He has written and published well over twenty books in more than twenty years of writing, from baby board books to young adult fiction, graphic novels, novellas and novels. His novel, The Lesser Blessed, is now a movie with First Generation Films and premiered in September of 2012 at the Toronto International Film Festival. His graphic novel, Three Feathers was released as a film in 2018 in multiple language.. Many of his books are also available in multiple languages including Bush Cree, Dene, and South Slavey.

His most recently published work is a collection of short stories titled Moccasin Square Gardens and has been nominated for the 2020 CODE Burt Award for Young Adult Literature.

Richard was born in Fort Smith, Northwest Territories, and is a member of the Tłı̨chǫ Dene Nation. He acted as a cultural consultant for CBC Television’s North of 60. A graduate of the En’owkin School of Writing in Penticton, he completed his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Writing at the University of Victoria and completed his Master’s of Creative Writing at the University of British Columbia. Richard was awarded Storyteller of the Year for both Canada and the US by the Wordcraft Circle of Native Writers and Storytellers.
