Nathan Bane

CBE / Somerset School

First and foremost a learner and educator, Nathan Bane has been designing a spectrum of authentic and meaningful learning experiences for both adults and students in Alberta for more than 15 years. His diverse professional background includes extensive experiences where he has been effective in moving learning forward in areas including: literacy, numeracy, instrumental music, construction technologies, career technology foundations, physical education, and science. He believes gaining goal commitment is the result of collective efforts with stakeholders in increasing awareness of the gaps between our current situation and an explicitly defined outcome. Nathan fosters the effective conversations needed to move learning forward by uniting trust and respect focused on the challenges surfaced within each unique learning environment. He fosters deep respect amongst team members by actively seeking to uncover multiple perspectives in order to root out issues which can be tackled cooperatively as a team. He actively involves his team in cycles of inquiry to promote teacher growth and student learning by focusing on what is visible in student work. A critical process he believes is required to accelerate outcomes for learners based on their 'individual abilities and gifts.
