Erin and Tara will share an innovative approach to Language Arts they have created called Room the Breathe. In Room to Breathe, students make choices in how they read, write, listen, speak, view, and represent. Students propose projects that challenge them but also appeal to their own passions and interests. They set their own goals, learning targets, assessment outcomes, and deadlines. This might sound like a teacher would need to manage a million moving parts but Erin and Tara have created a manageable and accountable method that puts students in the driver’s seat of their Language Arts curriculum. The result is an incredibly engaged classroom of readers, writers, speakers, listeners, viewers, and creators. Erin and Tara will share practical tools and unveil their process as they planned, executed, and assessed each student’s learning.
