Teaching letter sounds or long division to a student in emotional distress is likely to be an exercise in frustration if not futility. The same goes for trying to teach while you yourself are in a state of emotional distress. Telling yourself or your student to "Calm Down!" is unlikely to be helpful. In this session teachers will explore and discuss ways to develop emotional regulation in their students and themselves, in order to make the classroom more pleasant and more productive.
