Refugee learners enter our classrooms with experiences and backgrounds that impact their learning. The development of a trusting relationship with both the student and their family is the first step in developing understanding and programming for a student. While the target is to develop academics and English language, there are foundational skills that must be met to allow refugee students to engage in learning. Providing strategies that support both teachers and students to regulate, relate, and reason within the classroom will be the focus of the session. Through this session, teachers will work to understand the unique needs of refugee students in developing readiness for learning.
