Are you struggling to engage students who are reluctant to write? Then join us for an interactive session where we will be exploring instructional practices to engage students and further their literacy development through using popular culture and cinema in the elementary classroom. We will examine a variety of instructional practices to improve students’ narrative writing while also exploring possibilities for teachers to instruct students in creating multimodal works. This session will also examine approaches to further student comprehension of class novel studies and literature circles utilizing a variety of media. Using popular media and cinema will not only serve to improve students literacy skills but leave them excited to explore different media avenues and open their eyes to new possibilities for their writing!
