How can we understand Mathematics through a Fine Arts lens? How can we understand the Arts through a Mathematics lens? In what ways can the integration of these disciplines open space for students to understand the world differently? This interactive session will take a fresh approach to both Mathematics and Fine Arts by juxtaposing disciplines traditionally set in opposition to one another. We will explore curricular concepts such as number, pattern, symmetry, continuity, rhythm, shape, quantity, order, movement, and motion. Participants can expect to engage in both mathematical and artistic inquiry, reflect on the interconnections between these disciplines, and leave with creative ideas for opening new spaces that encourage students to play, create, grow, and learn about the world and each other.
