Planning Math by Keeping the Brain in Mind

Mathematics and NumeracyInclusive Education
1 Hour Session
2:15 PM, Thursday 13 Feb 2020 (1 hour)
Location : St. Mary's High School - B201

What do Math, the brain and neuroplasticity have in common – everything!

Good Math students have excellent computation skills, but they have also developed a level of automaticity and accuracy in their responses, but their strengths lie in their ability to recall their math knowledge and apply it. Students who struggle with Math generally lack these skills and can become defeated and doubt their abilities to ever be good at Math.

Participants will take part in a sample Math class and be introduced to a flexible Math Plan that embeds what we have learned about how the brain learns, stores and recalls information as well as the tenets of neuroplasticity. A Handout that allows for immediate use in the classroom will be provided.
