Session will focus on the Active Citizenship curriculum sections of Secondary Social Studies. The premise is on how teachers may further engage students by involving themselves (teachers) in local, national, and global Social Justice programs. I will present stories of my experiences with the Mustard Seed Street Ministry and the Knights of Columbus. These stories will be filled with how my involvement with social justice programs increased students engagement and learning. Moreover, I will include how I aspire to work with other social justice groups in order to inspire my students to become active citizens. The presentation will conclude with how teachers may get involved with active citizenship programs put on by the ATA and other organizations.
