Our ability to recover from trauma, adversity and setbacks defines us. Bestselling author and blogger, Mark Manson, says the amount of F’s we give affects our mental health. Suicide and depression are rising dramatically among teens as quickly as the size of their smartphone. Social Media feeds adolescents the message that success is fame, perfection, and extraordinary achievement. Can we teach students care about other lasting things? True success is built through gratitude, connection, and a sense of purpose. This session explores fundamental strategies to promote resilience in our children. Teachers will experiment with short mindfulness activities that work for middle school students. Further, it will explore ways to promote the two other key practices that evidence has shown to improve mental health.
