Given the vulnerable state of our natural world, this session presents an environmental education approach that empowers and encourages children at a young age to support the visioning of sustainable environmental outcomes in the future. It uses a systems framework and experiential learning activities to explain the concepts of circular economy, closed loop systems, and prosumer (consumer and producer). In this session you will create a closed loop system, where organic waste is used to create a fuel (biogas) for electricity generation using a biodigester technology, which in turn contributes to a circular economy. Residue waste is used as fertilizer. Circular economies regenerate resources rather than placing them in a landfill. An overview of the dimensions of sustainability is provided using a biodigester as an example.
