This session is geared towards teachers who currently have classroom pets, or have considered it. Come learn about animal welfare as we explore ethical ways to incorporate our animal friends into our curriculum through activities and storytelling. We will learn what the Calgary Zoo does to keep it’s animals happy and healthy in a noisy and dynamic environment, and discover transferrable techniques like enrichment, training, and species-specific enclosure design, to make your animal’s experience in captivity more positive. Animals can be very helpful in building compassion and stewardship in youth, but keeping critters in the classroom comes with great responsibility! Let us guide you through the experience of animal care.
