Alberta Theatre Projects

Contact Us:

We create world-class contemporary theatre from our home in the Martha Cohen Theatre. We are a national leader in new play development. Programming is driven by the collision of diverging ideas, points of view, class, gender, or cultural perspectives and is selected from the finest Canadian and international plays and new works commissioned and developed in-house. Our productions radically explore our space, blurring the line between the audience and the artist through multiple seating configurations each season.

Our Youth Engagement Programming aims to create accessible and experience-based educational opportunities through subsidized ticketing, one-on-one meetings with our artists, Q&A sessions, backstage tours, and more.

Alberta Theatre Projects is happy to offer in person and online education opportunities!

More Information

These performances invite students (no ID required) to purchase a ticket for only $20 dollars. They can also stay for a 15-20 minutes talkback with the show artists and win prizes donated by other organizations (tickets, plays, drama classes, etc.).

Job Shadowing

Sign up to sit in on rehearsal, attend a technical session, or have a one-on-one conversation with a member of our team.

D. Michael Dobbin Apprenticeship

Returning for the 2022/23 season, this is a season-long apprenticeship for recent high school graduates to get a practical theatre education before attending a post-secondary institution.

Backstage Tours

Sign up to get a tour of our facilities (from the lobby, to the wings, to the rehearsal hall, and all the way up to the grid). These can be conducted virtually or in person.

Student Writers Group

Formerly called "Fresh Prints" the Student Writers Group is open for high school students with a keen interest in playwrighting. They'll spend the season working with our instructor on Monday evenings and in the end, they'll each have a one-act play which will be professionally directed and performed.

Conversation with Artists

Invite one of our season artists or staff into your classroom for a virtual Q&A session - at this time, we're not offering lessons but would be open to a discussion.

Educator Resource Materials

Every student matinee comes with a packet of information we believe will heighten the theatre experience. This includes history of the work being performed, suggested themes and topics, and theatre etiquette. This is an area where we are open to suggestions.
