Gay Haldeman (Mary Gay Potter Haldeman) taught in the Writing Center at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) for 30 years, specializing in English as a second language. Now she resides in Gainesville, Florida, where she manages science fiction Grand Master Joe Haldeman's career. She was active in science fiction fandom in Washington, DC, in the sixties and seventies and helped to found the Science Fiction League at the University of Iowa in 1975, where she has been club and convention Mommy and Mommy Emeritus ever since. For more than thirty years, she did a panel with old time fan Rusty Hevelin called “How to Enjoy Your First Convention.” In 2011 she was given the Big Heart Award at the World Science Fiction Convention in Reno, NV. She's been going to science fiction conventions since 1963 (so has Joe) and loves to meet new people. After 54 years of marriage, she still thinks Joe's the best thing that ever happened to her.
