Mason Porter is a professor in the Department of Mathematics at UCLA. He has wide-ranging interests in the theory and applications of networks, nonlinear systems, and complex systems. He conducts research in myriad topics, including multilayer networks, dynamics of and on networks, large-scale structure in networks, topological data analysis, nonlinear waves, piecewise-smooth dynamical systems, and many others. He is particularly amused by quirky research projects. Mason is a Fellow of the American Mathematical Society, the American Physical Society, and the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics. Mason is a fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers (a US baseball team), science fiction and fantasy, and a wide variety of video and tabletop games.
