Karl has published eleven books with Tor Books. Two of these, Permanence and Lockstep, won Canada's Aurora Award for best novel. All of his novels made Locus's annual Recommended Reading list for their respective years. His latest are The Million, a far-future planetary romance, and Stealing Worlds, a near-future post-cyberpunk thriller. Karl likes to push the boundaries: Cory Doctorow said of Stealing Worlds that it is "simultaneously the weirdest and most plausible futuristic vision I've encountered in years." As well as writing, Karl is a working futurist, with a degree in Strategic Foresight from Canada's premier design-oriented university, OCADU. He consults and does public speaking all over the world (virtually, of course, in 2020).
