Edward James went to his first sf convention in 1964. He edited Foundation: The International Review of Science Fiction for 14 years, and co-edited The Cambridge Companion to Science Fiction and the Cambridge Companion to Fantasy Literature. In the field he has won the Eaton Award, the Pilgrim Award, a Hugo Award, a BSFA Award for Non-Fiction, and the IAFA's Distinguished Scholarship Award. He has published quite a lot also on early medieval history and archaeology, and his next book is going to be in Oxford University Press's "Women in Antiquity" series.
