Gina COLE (Queer, fiction writer, poet; from Tamaki Makaurau, Aotearoa, New Zealand) is of Fijian, Scottish, and Welsh descent. She is the author of Black Ice Matter, which won Best First Book of Fiction at the 2017 Ockham New Zealand Book Awards, and the winner of the 2014 Auckland Pride Festival’s creative writing competition. Cole’s work has been widely anthologized. She was New Zealand’s representative at the International Writing Program Fall Residency, University of Iowa in 2018, and the 2018 Writer in Residence at the Island Institute in Sitka, Alaska. She is an Honorary Fellow in Writing at the University of Iowa and she is currently a Phd candidate in creative writing at Massey University. She is researching Indigenous science fiction and writing a novel in a genre that she calls Pasifikafuturism.
