Lyric R. Cabral is a verité director, producer, show runner, and photojournalist whose work explores the intersections of race, religion, and surveillance in the post 9-11 world.   (T)ERROR, Cabral’s first documentary feature (co-directed with David Felix Sutcliffe), was awarded a Special Jury Prize for Breakout First Feature at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival, and the Grand Jury prize at the 2015 Full Frame Documentary Film Festival.  Cabral has been named one of International Documentary Association’s Emerging Documentary Filmmakers, one of Filmmaker Magazine's 25 New Faces of Independent Film, and was highlighted by American Photo Magazine as one of 15 international photographers to watch. Cabral’s photojournalism has been featured in National Geographic UK, The Nation, The Guardian, the Smithsonian Institution, and Gordon Parks’ The Making of an Argument monograph/exhibition, among others.  She has worked as a still photographer on the documentary films ADAMA (2012), OUT IN THE NIGHT (2014), and VERY SEMI SERIOUS (2015), and her photography is held in collection at the Whitney Museum for American Art, the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Studio Museum of Harlem, and the Smithsonian Institution Photography Initiative. In support of her journalism, Cabral has recently received artist grants from the Investigative Fund, BBC Storyville, Independent Television Service, Sundance Institute, Tribeca Film Institute, Britdoc, and the International Documentary Association.  Cabral was recently the showrunner of an episodic documentary series,YOUNG BLACK AMERICA, for VICELAND network, and directed/produced an episode of the PIVOT television series TRUTH TO POWER.  She is currently directing her second documentary feature, executive produced by Ahmir Thompson (Questlove), which goes inside the lives, kitchens, and inspirations of three African-American fine dining chefs.
