The Observer Effect: Towards a New Documentary Criticism

13:30, Wednesday 28 Sep 2016 (1 hour 10 minutes)
NeueHouse Hollywood - Screening Room
As the culture of documentary filmmaking and filmgoing has evolved dramatically in the last ten years, how has the critical discourse evolved alongside and in response to it? What does creative nonfiction writing reveal about the art of creative nonfiction filmmaking and about itself as an art form?  In this reading and conversation filmmakers and critics will share their work and explore the inherent tensions in the assertion that the act of writing is essential to interpreting as well as pushing the form of contemporary nonfiction. Writers Ashley Clark, Eric Hynes and filmmakers Sierra Pettengill and Jeff Reichert will be in conversation with Robert Greene. Presented with Sundance Institute.
