The State of Documentary: Where are We? What's Next?
10:30, Tuesday 27 Sep 2016 (1 hour 30 minutes)
Pickford Center for Motion Picture Study - Linwood Dunn Theater
A candid assessment of the current landscape for documentary filmmakers, this opening plenary lays the groundwork for three packed days of programming around the areas of art, diversity and sustainability at Getting Real '16. Presenters and audience members will size up the critical issues, both encouraging and daunting, and talk about ways we can re-shape the field for the future. Caty Borum Chattoo, co-director of the Center for Media & Social Impact, presents her findings from an IDA survey on sustainability and diversity, followed by Michael Bracy, co-founder of the Future of Music Coalition, who will connect challenges facing the filmmaking community with his experience in the music and broader cultural sectors. The session culminates in a town-hall style meeting with first-hand testimonials from filmmakers.
