StoryWorks: The Overnighters - An Original Storytelling Experience
19:30, Thursday 29 Sep 2016 (1 hour 30 minutes)
Pickford Center for Motion Picture Study - Linwood Dunn Theater
Based on The Overnighters by Jesse Moss, this unique storytelling experience will explore the intersection of documentary film, investigative journalism and live theater. Created by StoryWorks director Jennifer Welch and playwright Jon Bernson, StoryWorks: The Overnighters - An Original Storytelling Experience will be presented as a workshop production that shares ongoing stories of the film's principal subjects, sheds light on Moss's 18 month filmmaking process and explores the contentious forces that continue to place the Bakken oil fields at the center of international energy debates. Live performances by actors will be layered with footage and cut scenes from the film. The script will incorporate recent interviews with the filmmaker and subjects, as well as investigative reporting by Reveal's Jennifer Gollan on the oil fields of North Dakota. This experimental multimedia performance is the result of a collaboration between the International Documentary Association, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and StoryWorks. StoryWorks is a project of Reveal from the Center for Investigative Reporting, which merges investigative reporting with live theater to change the way we experience journalism.
