Code of Conduct

Our conference is committed to providing a friendly, safe, respectful, and welcoming environment for all attendees of the Getting Real ‘18. The Code of Conduct is provided to ensure that all conference attendees have a positive experience at our events, and all individuals are treated with dignity and respect.

To provide a chemical and fragrance free event, we request that participants refrain from wearing colognes, perfumes or other scented or chemical products to Getting Real. In consideration of participants who may have debilitating sensitivities or allergies to various fragrances we ask that attendees refrain from wearing fragrances or scented products.

We do not tolerate verbal harassment of or violence against conference participants in any form, whether in person or online, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, country of origin, religion (or lack thereof), or technology choices.

The use of derogatory, discriminatory or explicit language or imagery in public spaces, deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, harassing photography or recording, sustained disruption of talks or other events, inappropriate or unwanted physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention are not tolerated.

All conference guests, speakers, event staff, volunteers, sponsors, vendors and media are subject to the Code of Conduct.

Reporting a Violation: If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please notify a member of the conference staff immediately or contact conference@documentary.org.

Conference staff will take all reasonable and practical measures to investigate and address all instances of harassment, sexual harassment, and violence promptly. If necessary, venue security or local law enforcement will be contacted to provide escort, or otherwise assistance to those experiencing harassment. For emergencies, immediately dial 911.

Consequences of Violations of the Code of Conduct: Anyone asked to stop unacceptable behavior is expected to comply immediately. If a participant engages in unacceptable behavior, the conference organizer may, at its sole direction, expel the participant from the event and future events, without warning or refund, and, if appropriate, solicit the involvement of local law enforcement.
