Alysa Nahmias

Alysa Nahmias is an award-winning filmmaker based in Los Angeles. Her directorial debut feature, UNFINISHED SPACES, won an Independent Spirit Award, numerous festival prizes, and is in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art. She recently produced UNREST (dir. Jennifer Brea) for which she was an inaugural Sundance Institute Creative Distribution Fellow in 2018. Alysa's' producing credits also include the documentaries AFTERNOON OF A FAUN: TANAQUIL LE CLERCQ (dir. Nancy Buirski, creative advisor Martin Scorsese), SHEILD AND SPEAR (dir. Petter Ringbom), and the fiction feature NO LIGHT AND NO LAND ANYWHERE (dir. Amber Sealey, executive producer Miranda July). Her work has been shown worldwide by major distributors and networks, and it has been exhibited at festivals and institutions such as the Venice Biennale, the Hammer Museum, and MoMA. As a consulting producer, Alysa works strategically to help other filmmakers with financing, production, and distribution of documentary films such as TOCANDO LA LUZ (dir. Jennifer Redfearn), WEED THE PEOPLE (dir. Abby Epstein), PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF DESIRE (dir. Hao Wu), and WHAT WE LEFT UNFINISHED (forthcoming by dir. Mariam Ghani). Alysa holds a masters degree in Architecture, Media + Modernity from Princeton University and a B.A. from New York University. She is currently directing a feature documentary about an influential artist, and she is producing Sara Terry's next film about mobile home parks and the affordable housing crisis in America.
