Set Hernandez Rongkilyo is an undocumented immigrant filmmaker and community organizer whose roots come from Bicol, Philippines. They are the fruit of their parents' sacrifices, their siblings' resilience, and their community's support. Since 2010, Set has been involved in organizing efforts around migrant justice issues such as education equity for undocumented students, administrative relief and deportation defense, driver’s license and healthcare access for undocumented Californians, and community building with Asian undocumented youth and Pilipino migrants in Los Angeles. Set’s short films have been televised, featured, and awarded in film festivals across the U.S. They are currently working on projects that explore the criminalization of immigrant communities as well as the connection between immigrant rights and disability rights. Set served as Assistant Editor and Impact Producer for PJ Raval’s award-winning documentary, Call Her Ganda, which premiered at the 2018 Tribeca Film Festival. They are currently a Soros Justice Fellow, a Firelight Impact Producer Fellow, and an alumnus of the at land's edge fellowship. A published researcher, Set holds degrees in Linguistics as well as Film and Television from the University of California, Los Angeles. In their spare time, Set can be found writing poetry, playing the piano, or watching films by and about communities of color.
