Cynthia Hill

Markay Media
Cynthia Hill is known for crafting character-driven, visually-rich documentaries that take a complex approach to critical contemporary issues. She is the co-creator, director, and producer of A CHEF’S LIFE, which airs on PBS to an audience of nearly 3 million viewers per episode. The 4th season of this Peabody and Daytime Emmy-Award winning docuseries premieres in September 2016. Cynthia has also directed and produced three feature-length documentaries, including 2014’s PRIVATE VIOLENCE, which debuted at Sundance, premiered on HBO, and garnered Cynthia an Emmy nomination. Cynthia is currently directing a docu-series about NASCAR, executive produced by Peter Berg, as well as the feature documentary BURDEN OF PROOF. She is also an accomplished audio recordist and editor, and she records audio at every shoot, personally embedding herself in the lives of the people who entrust her with their stories. Committed to supporting the North Carolina film community, Hill co-founded the Southern Documentary Fund and has lectured at the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University.
