I am a Chicago-based filmmaker at Kindling Group, a nonprofit documentary media studio where I produce and direct digital documentary series', including Veterans Coming Home and the soon-to-be-released ITVS series Pulling the Thread.  I am also a tenured professor of Cinema and Television at Columbia College Chicago, where I teach Documentary filmmaking with an emphasis on emerging forms and digital distribution and how to make impactful short-form content for the web. 

I've directed and produced several award-winning independent films and helped write and produce a 100-part series for Lucasfilm/Paramount Pictures. In 2004, I was Fulbright Fellow in Cape Town, South Africa, where I continued to live for four years doing documentary work, teaching production courses at the University of Cape Town, and shooting, directing and producing the feature documentary, Zuluhoops. 

I have a BS in Journalism/Communications from Northwestern University, a Masters in Documentary Film and Video from Stanford University, and a Ph.D in Film and Media Studies from the University of Cape Town.
