
Chelsea Hernandez
Chelsea Hernandez is a Mexican-American filmmaker based in Austin, Texas, recently named as one of Texas Monthly’s “10 Filmmakers on the Rise.” Her work focuses on the unique perspectives of various issues and topics through the lens of ordinary people who challenge the status quo and injustices in this world. She is an 8-time Emmy winning director, producer and editor in the Texas region for her work on PBS documentary series, Arts In Context. Chelsea’s short documentary work includes See the Dirt, (Austin Film Festival Best Short Documentary) and An Uncertain Future (SXSW Texas Short Jury Winner, Aspen Shorts Youth Jury Winner, Dallas International Film Festival Special Mention, CineFestival Best Documentary Short). Chelsea is a fellow of NALIP Latino Media Market, Firelight Media Doc Lab, Tribeca Edit Storylab, Tribeca All Access and the Bay Area Video Coalition (BAVC) National Mediamaker Program. She is currently in post-production on her first feature film, BUILDING THE AMERICAN DREAM, which follows undocumented construction workers in Texas as they fight for basic safety and wage protections in a heavily unregulated state.
