
Marilyn Ness is a two-time Emmy, Peabody, and DuPont Award-winning filmmaker and is a partner at the women-led Big Mouth Productions. Ness produced BECOMING about Michelle Obama as well as DICK JOHNSON IS DEAD (dir. Kirsten Johnson), which premiered at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival and won a Special Jury Award for Innovation. Ness directed CHARM CITY which premiered at the 2018 Tribeca Film Festival and was shortlisted for the 2019 Academy Awards® followed by a broadcast on PBS' Independent Lens. Other producing credits including CAMERAPERSON, TRAPPED, and E-TEAM. She directed the documentary feature BAD BLOOD: A CAUTIONARY TALE. She is one of the founding members of the Documentary Producers Alliance and is Co-Chair of the committee releasing Guidelines for the Documentary Waterfall this fall. A former adjunct professor at Columbia University, Ness helped to create a self-education program for members of the DPA and allied organizations around investor financing.
