Gilda Ann Brasch
Inspired after filming in Nelson Mandela’s prison cell in South Africa, Gilda founded VUSI Filmworks with a focus on filmmaking for social change. Telling emotionally gripping stories is Gilda’s passion. She’s traveled the globe creating award-winning programming for PBS, The American Experience, and Executive Produced 5 seasons of VH1’s mega-hit franchise, Love & Hip Hop.
In 2007, Gilda produced/directed Oprah Winfrey’s ABC primetime special, Building A Dream, the acclaimed documentary on The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for girls in South Africa. Gilda also collaborated with Ms. Winfrey’s Harpo Studios on several other philanthropic projects in Africa, and in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina (2005).
With OWN’s cable launch, Gilda served as Co-Executive Producer of Ryan & Tatum: The O’Neals (2011), a documentary series. Let My People vote is VUSI's IDA sponsored, award winning short documentary. The first production in a voting rights docu-triology. Filmed in Tampa, during the 2016 presidential election, this verité short covers a day-in-the-life of civil rights activist and former felon, Desmond Meade. What begins as an upbeat day of faith in our democratic process, ends in a heartbreaking realization... Jim Crow is not dead.
