Dee Hibbert-Jones creates film and new media projects that address critical social change. Her work has been exhibited, broadcast and screened in museums, festivals and galleries internationally. Her most recent animated documentary short Last Day of Freedom was nominated for the 88th Academy Award for Best Documentary Short, won the International Documentary Association Best Short award, and a regional Emmy. The film screened at thirty international festivals, and won twelve festival awards. In 2015 she received the Filmmaker Award from the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke, to honor creative documentary filmmaking. In 2016 she was awarded a Congressional Black Veteran’s Braintrust Award, and a Gideon award for support to indigent minorities. She is currently working on her first feature documentary. Dee is a Guggenheim Fellow (2016) a Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Fellows (2014) and a MacDowell Fellow (2011). She a Professor of Art, Film, and Digital Art New Media at the University of California, Santa Cruz.
