Dawn Valadez (Producer) is a queer, Xicana, filmmaker, activist, resource wrangler, and impact strategist. Her award-winning feature documentary, THE PUSHOUTS (2018, co-director/ producer with Katie Galloway) premiered at FULL FRAME and SF International Film Festival, 2018 and received BEST DOCUMENTARY at the IMAGEN FOUNDATION AWARDS. With her two other films, Going on 13 (director/producer with Kristy Guevara-Flanagan) and Teacher Like Me (in production, 2020) she completes a trilogy on race, class, education, and coming of age in the United States in the 21st Century. These projects have received funding and support from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, Latino Public Broadcasting, California Humanities, Ford Foundation/Just Films, Sundance Institute*Skoll Foundation-Stories of Change, the Berkeley Film Foundation, Chicken & Egg Pictures, NALIP, CPB, & BAVC Media Maker Fellowships. In addition to directing and producing her own work, Valadez is a consultant on a range of documentary film projects. Valadez is adept at building successful partnerships that connect the art of storytelling to the community impact strategies needed to bring social change. Dawn is the Vice President of the BAVC Board, and a member of the Film Fatales and Brown Girl Doc Mafia. Valadez is a freelance media maker and fund development, consultant.
